… of Pak Ton Dharsono.’ I was surprised and asked, ‘Isn’t Pak Ton in prison?’ The officer replied, ‘Yes, he’s still in prison.’ I then understood that the children and grandchildren were striving to make a living while their father was in custody. I respected and admired the figure of Pak Ton. Even though he was imprisoned, his family remained steadfast and tried to make a living by starting a furniture business. This incident taught me about resilience and perseverance. Pak Harto eventually pardoned Pak Ton, and he was freed from prison. Pak Ton then continued to serve in various top positions within the TNI until he retired with the rank of Lieutenant General. He was truly a fighter who never gave up, always standing up for what he believed in, even in the face of adversity. These two exemplary leaders of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Kemal Idris and Hartono Rekso Dharsono, have left a lasting impact on the military and the nation. Their dedication, bravery, and commitment to the people have inspired many, including myself, to strive for excellence and always fight for what is right. Their stories serve as a reminder that true leaders are those who put the interests of their country and people above their own, and who are willing to stand up for justice and democracy, even in the face of challenges and opposition.
