President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his belief in Indonesia’s capacity to achieve net-zero carbon emissions as planned, positioning the nation as a frontrunner in reaching this significant milestone. In a virtual conference focusing on the introduction of renewable energy initiatives and the expansion of oil production in East Java, Prabowo underscored Indonesia’s efficiency in energy generation and the reduction of expensive logistics networks. The emphasis was placed on energy autonomy as a pivotal component of Indonesia’s pursuit of national sovereignty. The government’s strategy involves the implementation of 55 new renewable energy projects, including the development of geothermal power plants, to furnish clean, dependable, and effective energy throughout the archipelago. President Prabowo commended the collaborative efforts of various ministries, regulatory entities, and energy firms like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil for their roles in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. While acknowledging the substantial oil and gas reserves within the country, the focus was on the significance of renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, in ensuring energy self-sufficiency for communities across Indonesia. Prabowo expressed his optimism for Indonesia’s prospects, viewing solar energy as a beacon of hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands.
