Prabowo Emphasizes Bandung Spirit at BRICS Summit

President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, highlighted the importance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the recent BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and adherence to international law were emphasized by President Prabowo, as reported by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto. The President expressed Indonesia’s support for global peace through multilateralism and reiterated his rejection of war and double standards in international relations.

Airlangga also mentioned how President Prabowo emphasized the significance of the “Bandung Spirit” to fellow BRICS leaders. This spirit refers to the principles of solidarity among developing nations established at the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia. The President’s call for the continued relevance of the Bandung Spirit within the BRICS forum, particularly concerning the Palestinian issue, was well received.

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Nasir, confirmed that Brazil, the host country of the summit, warmly welcomed the reference to Bandung. He noted that Brazil had already invoked the Bandung principles in its opening statement before President Prabowo mentioned them. Brazil expressed hope that BRICS could revive the Bandung legacy to further advance the interests of developing nations and strengthen solidarity among member countries.
