President Prabowo Subianto is dedicated to improving the lives of the underprivileged by implementing various flagship programs aimed at addressing immediate needs and creating opportunities for future generations to break the cycle of poverty. Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono emphasized the importance of initiatives like Sekolah Rakyat, Kopdes Merah Putih, and MBG in restoring dignity to those living in poverty and disrupting the intergenerational transmission of economic struggles. With a clear focus on eradicating poverty, President Prabowo aims to eliminate extreme poverty by 2026 and reduce the overall national poverty rate to below 5 percent by 2029 through a combination of social interventions and community empowerment programs.
One of the cornerstones of President Prabowo’s poverty-alleviation strategy is the People’s School initiative, Red-and-White Village Cooperatives, and Free Health Checks in Schools, as highlighted by Senior Expert Adita Irawati. The CKG program, which provides free health checks, aims to reach 50 million Indonesians by the end of the year, focusing on schoolgirls from elementary to high school. The Red-and-White Village Cooperatives aim to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and empower rural and urban communities to become self-sufficient.
Scheduled to launch the Kopdes Merah Putih program on July 21, 2025, President Prabowo envisions establishing 80,000 cooperatives nationwide to empower communities and foster economic growth. The three-pronged strategy to combat poverty includes education, community development, and healthcare to ensure that the benefits of these programs are felt by the poor as soon as possible. By implementing these initiatives on a mass scale, the government is confident in its ability to achieve its poverty-reduction goals.
