MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih: The Future of Poverty Reduction

President Prabowo Subianto’s key initiatives, including Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih/Kopdes), are being heralded as pathways to accelerate poverty eradication in Jakarta. These programs are not just focused on reducing poverty through social assistance but aim to empower individuals and promote economic self-reliance. Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), Budiman Sudjatmiko, likened the government’s approach to a football game, where the poor are the players being equipped with skills, knowledge, and economic opportunities to score the goal of eradicating poverty.

Sekolah Rakyat, a boarding-based educational program, seeks to break the poverty cycle, while MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih are creating economic opportunities for entire communities. These initiatives are expected to generate millions of jobs, benefiting various sectors like farmers, SMEs, and village-owned enterprises. Nanik S. Deyang, Deputy Head of BP Taskin, emphasized that these programs offer tangible hope for independence to poor households, with examples of businesses expanding and creating more job opportunities due to their involvement in supplying MBG kitchens.

Kopdes Merah Putih plays a significant role in streamlining supply chains, reducing costs, and providing access to affordable credit for individuals, eliminating the need for exploitative daily lenders. By cutting out middlemen and offering favorable credit terms, Kopdes is empowering individuals and communities to thrive economically. Overall, these initiatives led by President Prabowo Subianto are not just addressing poverty but creating pathways for sustainable economic growth and independence in Jakarta.
