Prabowo Subianto, the president-elect for 2024-2029, played a role in the establishment of SMA Taruna Nusantara, which is currently one of the top high schools in Indonesia.
Dirgayuza Setiawan, son of the late Dr. dr. Boyke Setiawan, who was a trusted individual of Prabowo, revealed a proposal for the establishment of SMA Taruna Nusantara made by Prabowo and Boyke in 1988, which is still kept in his late father’s closet. The proposal was submitted by Prabowo to the Minister of Defence and the president at that time.
“Because SMA Taruna Nusantara is currently a trending topic, I want to share an interesting story. Last February, Mr. Prabowo suddenly asked me to check the archive of my late father: ‘Yuza, please find my proposal to the President and Minister of Defence to establish SMA TN. Your father kept it’,” wrote Dirgayuza in an Instagram story post on the @dirgayuza account, on Tuesday (10/9).
In another post, Dirgayuza also shared several photos from the contents of the proposal, including the initial sketches of SMA Taruna Nusantara, table of contents, preface, and the timeline of the construction of SMA TN from 1988-1990.
In the preface of the proposal, written by Prabowo and his team, it was mentioned that the establishment of SMA Taruna Nusantara was motivated by a sense of duty and a calling to contribute to the nation building and to uphold Indonesia’s independence.
“This idea was born from the duty to participate in nation building through development. As the country’s independence grows older, the challenges that will be faced become heavier and steeper,” as written in the preface of the proposal.
One of the steps in nation building is through education, especially focusing on the mastery of science and technology. Indonesia, as stated in the proposal, has various resources and talented individuals, “it would be a waste to neglect these talents by not providing them with appropriate education according to their exceptional skills and abilities.”
The establishment of SMA Taruna Nusantara is expected to provide adequate educational facilities. The goal is to explore and develop the exceptional talents of the nation’s individuals optimally, ultimately for the benefit of Indonesia’s future development.
“In this era of rapid advancement in the world of science and technology, as an independent nation, we must not lag behind in the race of global science and technology. With that determination, the proposal for the Science Secondary School Project was drafted,” as written by Prabowo and team in the preface of the proposal.
Dirgayuza also revealed in the same post that the initials PS and BS found in the proposal stand for Prabowo Subianto (PS) and Boyke Setiawan (BS).
Dirgayuza is known as the editor of several books by Prabowo. Meanwhile, his father was a retired TNI officer who once served as the rector of UKRI, an educational institution established by him in 2017. Before that, Boyke was trusted by Prabowo to manage one of his businesses in the field of sports recreation, Polo Club. (RR)
