Vietnam – Following his engagements at Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), Indonesia’s Minister of Defense and President-elect Prabowo Subianto visited Hanoi, Vietnam, to meet with President Tô Lâm on Friday, September 13.
Upon his arrival at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi at 4:15 PM local time, Prabowo was warmly greeted by Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong, Director-General of the Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South Pacific Department Nguyễn Tất Thành, and Indonesian Defense Attaché to Vietnam Colonel Dian Tri Hutanto.
During the visit, Prabowo and President Tô Lâm shared a dinner and engaged in a bilateral meeting. Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
In addition, Prabowo extended congratulations to Vietnam on its 79th Independence Day, celebrated on September 2, 2024, and wished the country continued success in its development.
Emphasizing the close ties between Indonesia and Vietnam, Prabowo underscored their strong friendship and commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors in the future.
Furthermore, towards the end of the meeting, Prabowo introduced himself as Indonesia’s President-elect for the term 2024-2029 and invited President Tô Lâm to attend his inauguration on October 20, 2024.
Prabowo concluded by expressing his gratitude and extending the invitation, stating, “Your Excellency, I am here to introduce myself as the next President of Indonesia. It would be a great honor for my people if you could attend the inauguration. Thank you very much.” (RR)
