KEPEMIMPINAN MEREKA YANG BERJUANG BERSAMAKU [MAYJEN TNI (PENSIUN) GLENNY KAIRUPAN]

Aside from gaining knowledge from my superiors, I have also learned a lot from my fellow comrades. In this book, I am sharing the stories of some of them. Although there are many more accomplished juniors, I cannot include everything in this book in order to complete it.

MAJOR GENERAL TNI (RET.) GLENNY KAIRUPAN

Major General Glenny has been a close friend of mine since our time as cadets back in 1970. We were in the same company under the leadership of First Lieutenant Azwar Syam. Together, we shared the highs and lows, joys and sorrows as cadets, young officers, and beyond.

While I served in the Special Forces (KOPASSUS), he was a part of the Army Aviation (PENERBAD) division. Whenever I was involved in a firefight in East Timor, he would be there almost immediately with his helicopter to evacuate the wounded or casualties from my team.

There were times when it was dangerous for him to land due to the terrain, but he never hesitated to take that risk because he understood the importance of evacuating the injured and fallen soldiers.

Major General Glenny and I have been close friends since our cadet days in 1970. We belonged to the same company led by First Lieutenant Azwar Syam. Our journey together included various experiences as cadets, young officers, and beyond.

Pak Glenny Kairupan possessed a strong and athletic physique. He was known for his friendly and jovial nature, always ready to lend a helping hand. His courage and patriotism were unquestionable.

During my time in KOPASSUS, he served in the Army Aviation Service (PENERBAD) division. Our paths crossed frequently in East Timor, especially after I was involved in combat situations. He would swiftly arrive by helicopter to rescue and evacuate the wounded.

Despite the risky circumstances of landing on steep slopes, he never shied away from his duty, knowing the importance of retrieving the injured and fallen comrades for our operations.

We participated in several joint operations in challenging environments such as East Timor, Papua, and border areas. Our collaboration continued until he was promoted to the position of Deputy Commander of the Military Resort Command (WADANREM) in East Timor, eventually retiring as a Major General. Even now, he continues to support me in the Ministry of Defence.

Pak Glenny Kairupan is not only a military man but also a sports enthusiast. He excels in shooting and was part of the obstacle course athletics team during his cadet days. Additionally, he displayed skills in tennis, embodying the qualities of an active, dynamic, and joyful military leader. His eagerness to learn and his close relationship with Pak Wismoyo Arismunandar further exemplify his leadership traits.
