Village cooperatives, known as Kopdes Merah Putih, are set to have a significant role in the distribution of subsidized essential goods like LPG and fertilizers in rural areas, as stated by Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi. This initiative aims to utilize Kopdes Merah Putih as a primary distribution point to ensure that rural residents have direct access to these basic necessities and to streamline the supply chain. While Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) will continue their operations as usual, Kopdes will be the key channel for distributing subsidized goods and social assistance. The government is committed to establishing 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih units to empower local communities and enhance rural economies. Financing for these units will be carefully managed to ensure that the benefits directly impact village residents. Minister Budi emphasized that Kopdes should be viewed as a business institution owned by the village, with profits shared among its members who are local villagers. This cooperative approach seeks to strengthen cooperative principles and support economic activities within the village.
