Prabowo Acknowledges Tough Talks with Trump, Tariff Agreement Reached

President Prabowo Subianto recently disclosed that he engaged in direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding trade tariffs, characterizing the negotiations as challenging yet ultimately successful. The talks, held at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 16), saw both leaders demonstrating a mutual understanding of each other’s national interests. As a result, the United States agreed to reduce import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. Prabowo highlighted the rigorous and calculated process undertaken by the Indonesian government to ensure the protection of public interests and domestic workers. He expressed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s workforce, emphasizing that the negotiation strategy was focused on securing favorable outcomes for the people. Moreover, Prabowo expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic strength in the face of global uncertainties, stating, “Our economy is strong and in good shape, ensuring resilience in any circumstances.” Looking ahead, Prabowo mentioned plans for a potential visit to the United States, with a meeting with President Trump tentatively scheduled for later this year, around September or October. In a lighthearted moment, the president joked about the possibility of a friendly game of golf with Trump during the visit.
