President Prabowo Subianto has set a bold target to expand the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Makan Bergizi Gratis / MBG) to reach 82.9 million children across Indonesia by the end of 2025. This initiative has been highlighted as a national priority and an urgent matter. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Prabowo recounted a personal experience in Central Java where the demand for the program was evident.
While traveling from Solo to Klaten, Prabowo witnessed schoolchildren, teachers, and locals standing along the road, expressing a need for nutritious meals. This encounter motivated him to accelerate the implementation of the program, aiming to reach 20 million children by mid-August. With a target of 82.9 million beneficiaries by December 2025, Prabowo emphasized the importance of proper resource management and training for kitchen staff.
The global community has taken notice of Indonesia’s efforts, with other nations expressing interest in learning from the program. Despite the ambitious goal, Prabowo stressed the need for tangible results, inviting accountability for the promises made. The Free Nutritious Meal Program is part of a larger vision to address child hunger, malnutrition, and educational disparities, ensuring that every child has the necessary support to thrive and succeed.
