Prabowo Criticizes Elimination of SOE Bonuses: What’s the Truth?

President Prabowo Subianto has announced the elimination of Profit Sharing Bonuses (Tantiem) for commissioners and directors of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) experiencing losses, as well as the reduction of commissioners in these companies. The decision was made due to the discovery of questionable practices surrounding Tantiem among SOE executives. During the presentation of the 2026 State Budget Bill at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Prabowo expressed his disbelief at the large sums given as Tantiem to commissioners who barely attended meetings. He emphasized that Tantiem payments should only be made to directors of profitable companies with legitimate earnings, not inflated numbers. To rectify the situation, Prabowo instructed the Danantara Investment Authority to oversee SOEs and ensure responsible management. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of prudent spending of public funds, calling for increased efficiency and tangible benefits from government expenditures. Prabowo’s actions aim to promote transparency and accountability in SOE governance while prioritizing the interests of the public.
