Prabowo Utilizing AI for Free Nutritious Meal Program
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Prabowo Subianto administration is reportedly planning to use AI for several main programs. One of them includes the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG).
Reuters reported a presidential regulation draft for AI adoption in ministries and local governments from 2026-2029. The target is to achieve economic growth through the development, facilitation, and utilization of AI, especially in the president’s priority programs.
The adoption of AI is said to be able to increase the Gross Domestic Product by 12% or US$366 billion by 2030. The draft also mentions the goal of using technology to make Indonesia more competitive in the use of AI at a regional and global level, as quoted on Thursday (6/25/2026).
Global Tech Giants Involved in Development
Several major global companies are reportedly involved in the drafting of Indonesia’s national AI regulations, namely Meta, IBM, and Microsoft. In 2024, Microsoft was known to have invested US$1.7 billion over several years for the expansion of cloud and AI services in Indonesia.
Reuters wrote that AI will be used for the MBG program in various ways. This includes designing special menus for regions, monitoring kitchen hygiene, predicting food demand and detecting anomalies, as well as integrating health data for early warnings in emergencies.
The draft also notes that AI-based automation allows organizations to achieve extraordinary efficiency and reduce operational costs. AI technology will also be utilized in health screening analysis for free tuberculosis screening programs domestically.
The draft regulation is awaiting Prabowo’s signature. It is not yet known when the regulation will be signed.
