European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new visa policy that will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. This new policy allows Indonesian nationals making their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Brussels, emphasizing the aim to deepen long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange.
Von der Leyen highlighted that the visa policy is not just about simplifying travel but also about facilitating investment, education, and fostering stronger connections between the two nations. She mentioned that this policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar, a key aspect of the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, aimed at building bridges between the peoples of both regions.
President Prabowo welcomed the strengthening of EU-Indonesia ties and emphasized the significance of trust and shared values in building long-lasting relationships. He expressed Indonesia’s view of Europe as a crucial player in maintaining global stability and underscored the importance of values, solidarity, and a shared vision for the future in the partnership between the two regions.
With the implementation of the new visa policy and the deepening economic partnership, Indonesia and the European Union are embarking on a new phase of their bilateral relations characterized by increased openness, strategic cooperation, and mutual benefits for their citizens. President Prabowo also expressed hope for the finalization and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Brussels, signaling a further step towards stronger ties between Indonesia and the EU.
