A recent study conducted by experts in Jakarta has shown that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has a positive impact on children’s concentration levels. The research, which was carried out in Aceh, revealed that students who received the Free Nutritious Meals demonstrated improved concentration, leading to enhanced educational outcomes and increased motivation to learn. Additionally, a separate study by the National Research and Innovation Agency found similar results in areas such as Bogor and Papua, particularly among students who did not have breakfast.
Concentration, according to Ikeu Tanziha, an Expert Council Member of the National Nutrition Agency, is closely related to attention and the brain’s ability to process information. Factors such as learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions like sleep quality and environmental factors can impact a child’s ability to concentrate effectively. Nutrients like protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain development and cognitive function, particularly in memory processing.
The MBG Program aims not only to support physical growth but also to enhance cognitive potential and intelligence in children. However, challenges such as unhealthy eating habits among children and limited access to nutritious foods in certain regions need to be addressed. It is crucial to strengthen collective efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program for the long-term benefit of future generations and society as a whole.
